Esmenia Sumoba Paranada, 87, died Feb. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in the Philippines, she was a graduate of Rosary College in Vigan City in the Philippines and Catechism teacher and was a retired housekeeper for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and an adult residential care home operator in Hilo and member of the Big Island Care Home Association, Big Island Filipino Community Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Leslie “Les” Arthur Botelho, 71, of Hilo, died March 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 26 in Ookala, he was a retired superintendent for the Hawaii County Motor Pool Division, owner of L&B Trucking LLC, welder for the former Hilo Iron Works, and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hawaii State Contractors Licensing Board, Democratic Party of Hawaii, East Hawaii Governor’s Advisory Board, and AFG East Hawaii Steering Committee. William Roger Teague Jr., 67, of Hilo, died Feb. 20. Born in Exeter, N.H., he was a retired civil service firefighter from the U.S. Department of the Army at Pohakuloa Training Area, U.S. Navy veteran with three tours of duty in Vietnam, former police officer and volunteer firefighter in Epping, N.H., and held numerous volunteer positions.
